Getting a Glimpse of the Finished Product

It is amazing what can happen in a month, and in the case of the construction of the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre, it is even more impressive.  Since my last editorial, significant progress has not only been made with the construction of our new Regional Civic Centre but also with the Ignite the Spirit Campaign and I am pleased to share that milestones continue to be achieved and construction continues to move along given the ups and downs that Mother Nature has thrown at us. Plenty to Look Forward to in 2012

2011 has proved to be a year filled with many milestones and achievements for the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre Project.  It is hard to believe that this time last year the first pour of concrete was arriving at the site and one year later we can look at the building and get a sense of what the finished product will look like.  Project Co-Chairs, Greg MacArthur and Bob Taylor are pleased with the progress to date and together with the rest of the project team and the community are counting down the days until September, 2012 when the facility is anticipated to open. September, 2012 Quickly Approaching

It is hard to believe that construction of the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre is moving into its fifteenth month and that in another ten months the doors will be opening providing the people of Central Nova Scotia with a new health and recreation centre to call their own.  Throughout the planning process, project staff and volunteers have taken the time to visit comparable facilities around Atlantic Canada and into Ontario. Throughout these visits we were always inspired by the “community feel” within the facilities and the comments by staff and members about how their new Centre has become a community focal point. The hustle and bustle of activity in these centres really puts into perspective what we have to look forward to in September 2012 when the ribbon is cut and the doors are opened to the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre. Environmental Focus Continues with Civic Centre Construction

There is plenty of buzz about the progress at the construction site of the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre.  It is interesting, as you drive through Colchester County, how many new viewpoints there are of the new Centre as steel is erected and phase one of roofing continues.  The finished product is sure to be a show piece and one that the community will be very proud of.  Over the coming months we will see the makings of the building and get a good sense of its finished appearance.   But, we still have some work to do for the September, 2012 opening so it is best that we focus on the task at hand; construction and raising funds towards the Ignite the Spirit Campaign. One Year Until Civic Centre Doors Open

As many may recall, the concept of a new Civic Centre in Central Nova Scotia was rooted in our Region’s bid to attract the 2011 Canada Winter Games four years ago in 2007.  Although the Region was unsuccessful in its bid, interest in developing a civic centre remained a high priority with the Truro Town Council, Colchester Municipal Council and residents of Central Nova Scotia.  Thankfully, because of strong partnerships combined with the commitment and enthusiasm of hundreds of volunteers, the Civic Centre is indeed becoming a reality and one scheduled to open this time next yearRead More »
