Additional Funding Requests Approved!

The Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre Project Steering Committee has overcome yet another hurdle in their dream of building a multi-purpose recreation facility for this Region.  Today, the Town of Truro agreed to accept the request for additional funding presented by the Project Steering Committee at a November 19th joint council public meeting.  The Town’s approval falls on the heels of the County of Colchester’s unanimous decision to also accept the Project Steering Committee’s request.

“This is an opportunity of a lifetime for our Region,” notes Bob Taylor, Co-Chair of the Civic Centre Project.  “The community told us what they wanted and both the town and the county joined together to make this happen, absolutely amazing.  We were faced with rising project costs but remained optimistic in going back to our respective councils that they understood the importance of proposed facility. We can no longer sit back and wait for things to happen, we need to step up and make Central Nova Scotia a better place to live and the proposed Civic Centre will certainly do that.” adds Taylor.

Greg MacArthur, project Co-Chair says “we have a dedicated group of people working on this project, a group that understood from day one that the decision to build this facility will change our community for many generations to come.  This facility will be the third pillar of our growing and prosperous community.  We have new schools (education), we will soon have a new hospital (health care) and the third is health & wellness and a gathering place for diverse community programs and activity (recreation facility),” notes MacArthur.

On November 19, 2009 the Civic Centre Project Steering Committee presented a request for additional funding in a joint public meeting to the Town of Truro and the Municipality County of Colchester.  It was requested that the Town of Truro and County of Colchester agree to fund the $11,033,600 deficit according to the contribution ratios outlined in the July 2008 Memorandum of Understanding.
