The Truro and Colchester economy can expect a $900,000 shot in the arm when Truro hosts Nova Music Week in 2014. The town was officially named an upcoming host community at the music industry’s annual awards ceremony in Yarmouth on Sunday night. (more…)

Friday, October 28th, 2011There is plenty of buzz about the progress at the construction site of the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre. It is interesting, as you drive through Colchester County, how many new viewpoints there are of the new Centre as steel is erected and phase one of roofing continues. The finished product is sure to be a show piece and one that the community will be very proud of. Over the coming months we will see the makings of the building and get a good sense of its finished appearance. But, we still have some work to do for the September, 2012 opening so it is best that we focus on the task at hand; construction and raising funds towards the Ignite the Spirit Campaign. (more…)
Construction Ticking Along!
Wednesday, October 19th, 2011Lots of excitement at the Civic Centre site, the arena is taking shape with the crew now working on the structure for the 2600 seats. Won’t be long until we are enjoying the event arena for concerts, tradeshows, ice sports etc. - so many opportunities are going to be available to us in September, 2012. It will be an exciting time!
One Year Until Civic Centre Doors Open
Friday, September 30th, 2011As many may recall, the concept of a new Civic Centre in Central Nova Scotia was rooted in our Region’s bid to attract the 2011 Canada Winter Games four years ago in 2007. Although the Region was unsuccessful in its bid, interest in developing a civic centre remained a high priority with the Truro Town Council, Colchester Municipal Council and residents of Central Nova Scotia. Thankfully, because of strong partnerships combined with the commitment and enthusiasm of hundreds of volunteers, the Civic Centre is indeed becoming a reality and one scheduled to open this time next year. Car Pool Lot to be Relocated Temporarily
Friday, September 16th, 2011Work on the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre site has resulted in the need to relocate the car pool lot temporarily. PCL, the project’s construction management team will be relocating the lot to its original location at the east end of the site at the corner of Abenaki Rd. and McClures Mill Rd. The change will take effect on Monday, September 19, 2011.
A permanent car pool lot to be used for the remainder of the Civic Centre construction period will be established in approximately three weeks.
