Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre Project Addresses Concerns

As the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre’s Project Team moves forward towards opening day in September, it continues to be an exciting time for the team and for the community.  But as the enthusiasm for the new building grows, so do some concerns.  Our community is going through a period of change, with the opening of both the new hospital and the new health and wellness centre approaching quickly.  As we know, sometimes with change – come questions.  Especially from those who will use these facilities not only for recreational but also for health purposes. Count down is on – only 6 months to go!

Before the doors to the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre open in September, many decisions will be made on and off the construction site.  It is easy to see the progress taking place as you drive by Abenaki Road, but the decisions and planning that are taking place behind the scenes are just as important.  I am referring to the day-to-day operations of the centre once the highly anticipated opening day arrives and the community has the opportunity to enjoy all that the Centre will have to offer.  Read More »

Operating Phase Moving Forward on Civic Centre Project

Over the last year or more, we have focused mainly on the progress of construction, fundraising and other community health initiatives.  The building is taking shape both inside and out and thankfully (but to the misfortune of outdoor enthusiasts) mother nature has been sympathetic to our cause and schedule.  The most remarkable progress is the work not visible to those who catch a glimpse driving by; the facility interior is a beehive of activity as a spider web of underground plumbing is now being covered with expansive concrete slabs, block walls define washrooms and change rooms, precast concrete slabs are assembled for the tiered seating, and many, many other changes. Getting a Glimpse of the Finished Product

It is amazing what can happen in a month, and in the case of the construction of the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre, it is even more impressive.  Since my last editorial, significant progress has not only been made with the construction of our new Regional Civic Centre but also with the Ignite the Spirit Campaign and I am pleased to share that milestones continue to be achieved and construction continues to move along given the ups and downs that Mother Nature has thrown at us. Plenty to Look Forward to in 2012

2011 has proved to be a year filled with many milestones and achievements for the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre Project.  It is hard to believe that this time last year the first pour of concrete was arriving at the site and one year later we can look at the building and get a sense of what the finished product will look like.  Project Co-Chairs, Greg MacArthur and Bob Taylor are pleased with the progress to date and together with the rest of the project team and the community are counting down the days until September, 2012 when the facility is anticipated to open. September, 2012 Quickly Approaching

It is hard to believe that construction of the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre is moving into its fifteenth month and that in another ten months the doors will be opening providing the people of Central Nova Scotia with a new health and recreation centre to call their own.  Throughout the planning process, project staff and volunteers have taken the time to visit comparable facilities around Atlantic Canada and into Ontario. Throughout these visits we were always inspired by the “community feel” within the facilities and the comments by staff and members about how their new Centre has become a community focal point. The hustle and bustle of activity in these centres really puts into perspective what we have to look forward to in September 2012 when the ribbon is cut and the doors are opened to the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre.
