Truro Bidding for 2013 Fred Page Cup

A major hockey event could be coming to Truro if all goes well between now and Christmas. CoRDA’s Destination Colchester along with the Truro Bearcats and the Civic Centre Committee are ready to submit a bid for the 2013 Fred Page Cup.

The Fred Page Cup is the Eastern Canadian Junior A Hockey Championship that sees the Bogart Cup champions of the Central Junior Hockey League, the Kent Cup champions of the Maritime Hockey League, La Coupe NAPA champions of the Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League and a host team compete to advance to the Royal Bank Cup.

Truro Bearcats owner Stu Rath says “ it’s an exciting event that will showcase some of Canada’s highest-calibre hockey right here in Truro.” Mr. Rath adds “ it will also be a great way to show off the new civic centre’s location and facilities.”

The Bearcats have participated in the Fred Page Cup three times. That took place twice as the Bearcats were Maritime Hockey League champions and once as the ‘Cats were playing host to the event in 2002. Truro-Colchester is competing with Amherst for the event. A bid presentation will be made in Moncton on November 26^th by Destination Colchester’s Creston Rudolph and representatives of the Truro Bearcats.

Over thirty Scotiabank employees volunteered at the August 5 Blue Rodeo Concert in support of the campaign. Scotiabank donated $15,000 to the concert.
